Its creation requires a great deal of time and patience, because after harvesting and sorting the rushes, they must be dyed, then left to dry, before being handwoven over two days. A truly living piece, it is a rug that evolves over time.

Its unique patterns are bordered by small black fringes that frame the rug. The Mahila rug is meticulously crafted by women in their homes, on looms located beneath the stilts of their houses. This home-based work allows them to give free rein to their creativity and talent.
