Leya cushion cover
The Leya cushion cover stands out for its fascinating patterns that combine bright colors and deep hues.
Made in India using the traditional 'cut-out' technique: The black fabric is first fixed to the natural canvas and then the pattern is cut out by hand to create the design and reveal the fabric underneath.
The design to be cut out is printed onto the black fabric using ink that is then washed off. The black fabric is then attached to the canvas fabric underneath, preventing it from separating. The artisan cuts the black fabric by hand to reveal the design and the underlying canvas fabric. The cut fabric is then hand-stitched onto the canvas. This process is carried out with great care and skill.
The 'cutwork' technique is primarily used in the state of Rajasthan, India, as well as in Kutch, in the state of Gujarat.
'Cutwork' and hand embroidery are used to make ralli quilts, bed covers, clothing, cushion covers and other decorative items.
Leya therefore benefits from meticulous and subtle finishes that highlight the excellence of the artisanal know-how.
